What's wrong with NRIGirl?

Nothing... really... okay if you insist, it is the hair... Israel's hair. He has been such a well groomed handsome gentleman all along but lately he wants to grow his hair longer. "How long?", when I ask he says "mmm... how about as long as yours?!" Hope he is joking as it gives me jitters already...

When I further insist, he says, "how many hairstyles you have tried over the years, have I said anything? Now I want to give it a try - I always wanted to do it but my Mom never let me, so now I want to just try it once, anyway I have only skipped one cutting, may be will do one or two more, that's it..."

OK his reasoning sounds good, but can't truly understand why he should spoil his looks over a teenage dream? I even showed him Einstein's picture to let him know how his hairstyle looks like now - seriously! He just thought I was joking...

On Sunday as we were pulling in to the Church parking lot, there was another lady with the blinkers on coming from the opposite direction. I had expected Gentleman Israel to give way for her, but he pulled in to the parking lot first. When I commented on that, he said "We had the right of way"

I had to tell him he used to be so nice and gentlemanly as long as his hair was tame, now that it is wild and out of control he is behaving like a ruffian! We had a good laugh. Jokes apart, it really puts me off.

This morning Israel was asking, "There seems to be something bothering you, what is it?" I replied, "Nothing..." He insisted, "Tell me the truth NRIGirl!" and hence this post...

Am I overreacting?

It seems like you are overreacting. Long hair is independent of car parking. Linking two of them is not right.

If he did have right of way, then be it. That is really minor. Sometimes people want to use right of way. Usually I don't care if someone cuts me but sometimes one has to use right especially at Indian places otherwise I will never find parking.

Long hair:- Teenage years are so good...he will be over it in few weeks. Just relax.

Let him live out his fantasy. Plus he (and you) is lucky he has full hair. See those guys who are in mid 20s and are completely bald.

You made me laugh @SG! Thanks for that as I was brewing inside ...

@A knew you would say that!

Sure, I will let him have some flair with his hair...

Israel's head and hair are- his! Even the most loving couples should remember to give a little margin for the individuals in them.

My teenage son came home the other day from Bangalore, with wild hair and beard and looking scruffy. His mother immediately started wailing and pleaded with me to ask him to cut his hair and shave his beard off. I said, 'Why? That's his face and his head. Let him have at least the freedom to do what he wants with his face and hair!'

Always, remember that little margin.

I agree with @A and @Balachandran. After all, Israel has a real right of his way :) Of course, the little defiance he put in in parking the car might be his reaction to something that might have been troubling him, just guessing!

And @SG is right in saying that Israel is lucky to have such long hair. At least, I am jealous of him, ha ha ha :D

But what I liked about the post is your frank and open in being thinking out your reaction. Nice way to get clarity in one's own thoughts! :)

@Balachandran V & @Mohan you make a good point. Israel will be so happy seeing all these supportive comments. Thank you!

Balachandran said it before me.He often does that!

In all relationships, leave breathing space. My son started a French beard, and I never liked it.I mentioned it once casually, and guessed he was keen on it.If I had insisted,he would disobey me,don't know.Isn't it wise for us to leave it at that?

I agree with you one hundred percent. We have friends who in their younger days had long hair and I always wanted to take a pair of scissors to it.

Thank you Petty for supporting me! I had almost concluded no one was on my side of the story...

I am too late to post my comments and I hope Israel did try it ...

I too do not favour long hair. Do you remember the days our Principal cut couple of guys long pony tails and put oil on their head? And every one suddenly started having neat hair cuts...

I dont like to deny anyone freedom to try their dreams...Good or bad let him try and he will love you more for letting him pursue that childhood dream with out complaints...
