My Home Country

One thing that awed me when I landed in America was the sight of American Flag flowing freely in all highways and byways, malls, schools, post offices, municipal buildings, gas stations, churches, and even on apparels and accessories! It was awesome. Just the sight of it renewed my bond with my new home.It was a constant reminder that I finally made it to my dream country.

This was a contrast bewteen the Indian Flag I had seen only on special occasions couple of times a year like Independence day, Republic day, etc. It was almost sacred and dealt with utter importance. Nothing wrong with that. People would argue that's how it should be. It's just that it kept me - the commoner, at a distance when it came to embracing it as my own.

Whereas in America I can embrace the flag as her own child. I can touch it, feel it, wear it and see it all around and it gets me one step closer to the flag and hence the country. The longer I have lived here the stronger my affinity has grown towards my new country. I even wonder which I would call my home country now. I guess it would be safer to say wherever I make it a home is my home country. For now, it is America and I love it the best.

America has made it easier for me to achieve my dreams, reach my skies, touch my stars, and live my life. Grateful always to God Almighty first and America the next for making it all come true! Happy July 4th to all my fellow citizens.

happy 4th july...and yes as Bikram said now in India also we can have the flag all around, but i personally feel that we Indians are not that much enthusiastic about it as the ppl of some of the other country are, so still you may not find National flags all around when you come to India....and its unfortunate..:(

A belated happy 4th of July to you and yours. I know what you mean about the flag, here in England we seem to have the idea that to fly our flag means we are racists and the flying of it is largely discouraged in most places.

Prhaps in India, people may tend to tamper the flags, without truly understanding its value, that's why the government banned the use of small plastic flags even during the independence day

Well for one thing, misuse of flags always make the headline :P
enjoy your time :)

I like your spirit and that is the way it should be. I lived in the US for a couple of years, and the place grows on you. Of course, one must be grateful for the country that embraces you warmly and gives you the freedom to live your life. And, in India too we are free to fly flags within our own homes. Naveen Jindal fought a court case over it and got us that right almost 10 years back. Of course, there are some rules about disrespect that govern flying the flag. But, that is fine. I personally feel a lot of pride when I hear the national anthem or the tricolor flying anywhere in the world.

Hey! Actually I had not read this - somehow didn't realise that I was not following this blog as well - I get your posts from coffee with Jesus on my reader but not this one. So corrected now! And I certainly didn't mean you - I doubt anything I have read from you is even remotely in the realm of bashing anyone!!
