Interview with an NRI in Dubai - Ms. Jyothi Menon

I hope everyone is enjoying these interviews as much as I do. If you too would like to be interviewed for this series, please contact me at nrigirl at hotmail dot com.

Today we have Ms.Jyothi Menon with us, an NRI from Dubai, who blogs Life does have a meaning... I came to know of Jyothi when I was part of the plan to surprise her on her birthday with a post. As my birthday gift to her, I became her follower and have come to truly enjoy her posts since then. I am so glad that she is willing to share about her in NRIGirl blog.

Let's give a cheerful welcome to Jyothi!! She quotes on her birthday - Dec 5th:

"Every year this day, I wake up feeling like a princess. As the morning progresses, I get overwhelmed by the wishes, cards and gifts. As the afternoon begins, I reminisce of the years gone by, and almost every year these thoughts end up as tears in my eyes..."

? Can you tell us a little about yourself? Please include where you are from.
! I was born in Palakkad, Kerala. I spent my first 4 years in Madras( Now Chennai) and celebrated my 6th Birthday in Dubai. I completed my schooling here. I am the youngest of three sisters, with my elder sisters 6 and 7 years older to me.  I got married during my final semester (Engineering in Karnataka) and shifted back to the Dubai with my husband soon after my final exams.

... My son is 13 years old and loves to play the guitar and keyboard. My daughter is 11 years old and loves to sing. Hubby is a Mech Engineer, born in kerala, but brought up in New Delhi. I haven't actually pursued my career. Kids were the top priority. But I did work on and off as a teacher and a banker. I have tried to cover India during my vacations, I have been to most states except for the eastern ones and Kashmir. I will celebrate my 15th Wedding Anniversary this month and my 38th Birthday this December (hopefully)..

? How did you first get involved in blogging?
! A friend from college was into blogging and he got me interested in it too.

? What do you do when you aren’t blogging?
! I read books, I enjoy music, I shout and scream my lungs out at my kids and husband (and get double in return) and then I blog some more. :D

? How did you come up with the name for your blog?
! I came into blogging at a time when my kids were not so young anymore. I suddenly had a lot of time on my hands and  I needed a let out, I was in search for a direction and meaning to my life and hence the title "Life Does Have a meaning...."

? What is your favorite post that you have written? What makes it special?
! I actually blog at three different places now. My other blogs being more or less devoted to the creative, poetic or the music/movie/book freak side of me. I had written a book review I was pleasantly surprised when the Author of the book commented on it. I think thats when I actually realized the power of blogging. My other blogs: Learning Process called Life.

? Any regrets about any of your posts?
! None. Most of them have been ramblings of a disquiet mind. A journey from an introvert into a totally open book. Embarassed maybe, regrets no.

? Tell us a joke please.
! I got these off facebook updates today and I am sharing :
"Tranquilizers work only if you follow the advice on the bottle - keep away from children"
This next one is in Hindi. "Mere paas Hotmail hai, Facebook hai, Orkut hai, Twitter hai.... tere paas kya hai?Smart answer:Mere paas "Aur bhi kaam hain" ( I have Hotmail, Facebook , Orkut ,Twitter....what do you have? Smart answer: I have "Other things to do" ).

? What can readers expect in your blog? What is it about?
! My blog is a personal space. I blog about my life experiences in First Person. But it more or less applies to everyone, I just personalize it up more than others. I write book and movie reviews at times. I also write poems and stories. I haven't had the guts to even think of publishing them yet! .

? Is there anything else you want to share?
! I share a whole lot on my blog. My life, its all there.

? Now, if you have a question for me (NRIGirl) this is your chance to ask.
! What brought you into blogging?  I actually would love it if you would do this interview on yourself too. I would love to know more about you.

I liked the candid answer to the question, "What can readers expect in your blog? What is it about?".
Yes certainly Blogs are personal spaces. One do not blog for others. It is one's way of self release , introspection. I feel so.

@NRIGirl - Thanks for considering me as "Worth Interviewing". :) I actually felt like a celebrity when I wrote these answers. Thank you. :)

@A - More secrets disclosed? :D

@Balan - Same here! :)

@Irfan - Thank you for following me. :)These interviews are a Great Idea.

@Anil - Very true. But there are blogs out there who actually are instrumental in changing people's lives. For example IHM's. Please read her latest post. That one helped a Confused Wife become Unconfused! Isn't that great work worth appreciation?
